Your accommodations are located in Lapa, Rio’s colourful bohemian centre, where many of Carnival’s major events and block parties take place. The neighbourhood is full of samba clubs, theatres, capoeira halls, trendy antique stores house in historical buildings, funky bars, restaurants, cafes, and of course, the famous Lapa Arches! You are free to arrive when you wish, however keep in mind that check-in if from 2PM on. Our crew will be awaiting your arrival, and will be happy to show you your room, give you local maps, give you insider tips, and take you on an optional orientation walk through the area.
We will meet in the hotel lobby around 5PM for a group meeting, during which you’ll be given a schedule of all your planned events and meeting times. After the meeting, the party starts! Brush up on your samba skills in our group samba class, then it’s time to hit the streets for our first night out in Rio de Janeiro! Our Tour Leader will be there with you every step of the way, taking you to all the best parties in town! Tonight is the first official night of Carnival in Rio - the atmosphere will be electric!
Tonight, you’ll have the option to head over to Avenida Presidente Vargas to check out the samba schools prepare and party! Make sure you bring your camera - this will be a night you’ll never forget!
Inclusions: Orientation walk, welcome briefing (Caipirinhas and Samba Class included), partying with the samba schools on Av. Presidente Vargas accompanied by Tour Leader/s, night out in Rio accompanied by Tour Leader/s.
*Pre-Tour Night: Please note an optional night is available before the beginning of the tour for an additional cost. We highly recommend that you book an extra night, especially if you’ve travelled a long way to get here, to give you time to recover, settle in and visit more of Rio’s sites before Carnival.
*Airport Pick-Up: Please note an optional airport transfer to your accommodation can be scheduled for an additional cost.
*Shopping Note: Today is the day most shops and big markets will be open in the area. During Carnival it is customary to wear ‘fancy-dress’ costumes to all street parties; so if you haven’t packed any fancy dress items today is the day to go shopping. Our Tour Leader/s can tell you where to go.
Day 2: Saturday (02 March): Morning Bloco & Sunset Boat Party Cruise (B/L)
Our Tour Leader/s will meet you in the morning at breakfast, where they will be more than happy to provide you with information regarding today’s plans.
One of the biggest and most fun “blocos” in Rio de Janeiro - “Céu na Terra” - traditionally performs on Saturday morning in Santa Teresa during Carnival. If you’re feeling up to it, our Tour Leader/s will accompany you down to the party!
This afternoon, we’ll cruise on down to the Marina da Gloria to grab some lunch and then hop on board our magnificent schooner. We will then spend the next 3-4 hours cruising around Rio’s spectacular Guanabara Bay! On board the schooner there will be bathrooms, music, a dance floor, a chill-out area, snacks, and an open bar for the first hour of the cruise! Returning just after sunset, you’ll have the chance to view the city, Sugarloaf Mountain, and Christ the Redeemer from a different light and angle.
After the boat returns to port, you will have a chance to return to your accommodations, where you can take your time and get ready for another big night out on the town! As always, our Tour Leader/s will be there to explain the various options offered for the night ahead. Have fun!
Inclusions: Breakfast, Bloco street party accompanied by Tour Leader/s, Lunch, Boat party cruise around Guanabara Bay (1h open bar), Night out in Rio accompanied by Tour Leader/s.
Day 3: Sunday (03 March): Pre-Carnival Party & Sunday Sambadrome Parade (B/D)
After enjoying breakfast at the hotel and getting all the insider tips from our trustworthy Tour Leaders on what to do today, it’s time to head out! You are free to head to the beach, or you may take an optional tour for an additional cost. If you feel like heading to the beach as a group, one of our Tour Leaders will meet you in the hotel lobby at 10AM and take you on the metro to the best parts of the beaches at Ipanema and/or Leblon.
If you’re feeling ready to party, our ever-helpful Tour Leaders will be more than happy to accompany you to some of the most vibrant “bloco” street parties happening in the city today!
Tonight our Tour Leaders will be taking you to the main Carnival event of the week: the Sunday night parade at the Sambadrome! This parade is where all of the city’s best samba schools parade their outrageous floats and costumes down the runway, and we will have the best view of the spectacle from the stands above! We will once again meet in the hotel lobby for included pre-drinks and yet another opportunity to get your face painted. Our professional photographer will be on hand to capture all the action, so be sure to get dressed up in your very best Carnival-themed attire! Before arriving at the Sambadrome we will grab dinner at one of Rio de Janeiro’s most famous churrasco restaurants to enjoy dinner, giving our bodies the much-needed fuel to last the entire night!
We will be sitting in Sections 12 and 13 of the Sambadrome, located near the end of the runway and known to be one of the liveliest sections, full of fun, rowdy locals! There will not be any fixed seats, just concrete bleachers from where you can stand and cheer as the samba schools arrive at the finish line! Another hidden perk of this section is the potential to salvage an abandoned costume to wear later, as many dancers leave their costumes behind after the parade!
Alternatively, you have the option to upgrade to another section for a closer view and a less rowdy crowd at an additional cost.
You’ll see that the local Cariocas really support their samba school (similar to supporting a football team!) with lots of singing and dancing. They know ALL the words to the ‘anthems’. It is a wonderful local experience and one that goes on until the wee hours of the morning!
Inclusions: Breakfast, Group trip to the beach, Bloco street party accompanied by Tour Leader/s, Sambadrome Parade Tickets Sectors 12-13 with group escort to and from accommodation and All-you-can-eat Brazilian Churrasco BBQ dinner.
*City Tour Note: Please note you can book an optional city tour for this morning for an additional cost.
*Sambadrome Sector Upgrade: If you wish to get closer to the parade and get a better view you have the option of purchasing an upgrade for an additional cost. You will still have a Tour Leader accompanying you if you choose to upgrade.
